Calling all FFA alumni and supporters: The Michigan FFA Alumni and Friends is renewing its partnership with Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan’s Agent Charitable Fund (ACF) during its state annual meeting and asking individuals and affiliate chapters to participate in its non-perishable canned food drive.
Donated food will go to Michigan families and children in need, said Becca Gulliver, president of the Michigan FFA State Alumni Council.
“Our communities are facing a hunger crisis,” Gulliver added. “One in five Michigan kids are considered food insecure. The problem is especially prevalent in rural communities, where 11% of rural households are facing food insecurity. An additional $696 million is needed to feed the over one million Michiganders facing hunger.”
The ACF is a donor-advised fund within the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture and the agent giving arm. Following the purpose and vision of the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, the ACF provides opportunities for agents and county Farm Bureaus to apply for hunger-relief grants and donation matches in our communities. The funds provide food and educational programs to Michigan residents struggling with hunger and aid the more than 3,000 hunger-relief agencies throughout the state.
In 2023 the ACF will disburse more than $180,000 in grants, donation matches and charitable contributions.
