Michigan Webinar Series Explores Regenerative Agriculture Practices

Michigan Webinar Series Explores Regenerative Agriculture Practices

By Andi Anderson

Michigan State University Extension is inviting farmers, landowners, conservationists, and agricultural professionals to take part in a winter webinar series focused on regenerative agriculture.

The six part virtual series aims to share practical knowledge that helps improve soil health, protect water quality, and strengthen farm resilience across Michigan landscapes.

Each session offers a focused discussion on regenerative practices and provides clear answers to common questions about moving farms toward more sustainable systems. The series is designed for people with different levels of experience, from those new to regenerative agriculture to those already using these practices.

The webinar series begins on February 10, 2026, with a session on grazing in cropping systems. This topic explores how adding livestock to crop fields can improve soil health and lower feed costs.

Speakers discuss grazing strategies, animal nutrition, and farm logistics. On February 12, participants learn about crop residue and how it affects spring soil temperature, seed conditions, and planting risks.

A February 17 session focuses on cover crops in perennial systems such as orchards and vineyards. This approach can support soil health, reduce weeds, and increase biodiversity. On February 19, the series highlights partnerships between farmers and lake associations. Real examples show how teamwork improves water quality and builds trust in local communities.

The February 24 webinar examines strategic tillage and the balance between soil disturbance and regenerative goals. The final session on February 26 introduces growing native plant seeds as an innovative crop option. This topic covers market potential, farm practices, and ecological benefits.

All sessions are held virtually on Zoom from 6 to 7 p.m. Registration is free, and participants may attend one or all sessions. Registered participants receive email reminders and login details.

Regenerative agriculture focuses on improving land, water, and ecosystems rather than simply maintaining them. This webinar series provides science based information and practical tools to help farmers and landowners make informed decisions. By learning how small changes can create long term benefits, participants can support healthier farms and stronger communities across Michigan.
