Michigan State University (MSU) has announced the formation of the Green and White Council, a group of business and civic leaders selected to support the university’s mission of strengthening Michigan’s workforce and economy.
The council aligns with President Kevin Guskiewicz’s vision of MSU as “Michigan’s state university” and a leading force in talent development and innovation.
The council is co-chaired by MSU alumnus Matt Elliott and Eli Broad College of Business Dean Emeritus Sanjay Gupta. They will guide initiatives that align with MSU’s strategic plan and focus on producing the talent needed for Michigan’s key industries.
The group will also help connect MSU students and alumni with meaningful careers in-state.
Council members include leaders from agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, finance, and education, such as Linda Hubbard of Carhartt, Tricia Keith of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Chuck Lippstreu of the Michigan Agri-Business Association. Former U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow also joins the council.
The council will meet throughout 2025 to explore bold, impact-driven initiatives and help shape a modern, skilled workforce. These efforts will build upon MSU’s strong presence across Michigan, including partnerships in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Flint.
With nine nationally ranked programs, including agriculture, supply chain management, and education, MSU plays a key role in talent development.
The university also boasts a $6.81 billion annual economic impact and is home to the MSU Innovation Center, which helps transform over 150 discoveries into patents or start-ups each year.
MSU remains a leader in agriculture and natural resources, is home to the world’s most powerful rare isotope accelerator, and partners with Apple to host the only Apple Developer and Manufacturing Academies in North America.
This new council will help MSU further connect education, industry, and innovation for a stronger Michigan future.
