MSU Strawberry Day Offers Learning On Farming And Agritourism

MSU Strawberry Day Offers Learning On Farming And Agritourism

By Andi Anderson

Michigan State University Extension is organizing its first Strawberry Day event on July 8, 2026. This program is specially designed for strawberry farm operators and farm market owners who want to improve their farming practices and business strategies.

The event will begin in the morning at River Valley Farms in Constantine, Michigan. Participants will gather from 9:30 to 10 a.m. for coffee and refreshments, followed by a field session from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. During this time, experts will discuss important topics related to strawberry production. These include crop management, field renovation, use of farm equipment, and integrated pest management practices.

Several experienced professors from Michigan State University will lead the sessions. These include specialists in weed science, horticulture, plant disease, and insect management. Their guidance will help farmers better understand how to protect crops, improve quality, and increase yields.

After the morning session, participants will travel to Corey Lake Orchards in Three Rivers, Michigan. The afternoon program will begin with lunch from 12:15 to 1 p.m., where visitors can enjoy fresh food, including the orchard’s well-known pies and bakery items.

The focus of the afternoon session will shift to agritourism and direct sales. Experts will explain how farms can attract visitors and sell products directly to customers. This approach helps farmers increase income and build strong relationships with consumers.

From 1 to 2 p.m., attendees will take part in an agritourism tour to see how such activities are managed in real farm settings. The event will end with a closing session and an informal networking opportunity, allowing participants to share ideas and experiences.

The event is free to attend, but registration is limited to 50 participants. It is supported by several agricultural organizations, making it a valuable opportunity for learning and growth.
