New Bill Supports U.S. Farmers in Color Additive Market

New Bill Supports U.S. Farmers in Color Additive Market

By Jamie Martin

U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) has introduced the Harvest to Hue Act, a bill designed to support American farmers in leading the shift toward natural food color additives in the nation's food industry.

This legislation follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s April 22 announcement supporting a nationwide move to natural food colorants under the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative.

With increasing consumer demand for healthier and more transparent food options, the Harvest to Hue Act aims to provide farmers with new market opportunities, encourage agricultural innovation, and strengthen the availability of safe and affordable natural food products.

“Our farmers are the backbone of our nation. By empowering our farmers, we are investing in the future of American agriculture and ensuring healthier choices for American families," said Congressman Miller. "The Harvest to Hue Act harnesses their strength and current innovation efforts to meet growing consumer demand for natural products while reinforcing the integrity and safety of America's food supply. This is a win for farmers, a win for public health, and a win for America."

Key provisions in the bill include directing the Secretary of Agriculture to improve USDA efforts that help U.S. farmers grow and produce agricultural goods used in natural color additives.

It also promotes interagency collaboration and prioritizes USDA research to support agricultural-based natural colorant development.
