Michigan Farm Bureau is proud to announce the finalists for the 2024 Young Farmer Achievement Award, highlighting the outstanding achievements of up-and-coming leaders in the state's agriculture sector.

Nathan Engelhard, along with his wife Amy, has exemplified resilience and dedication in building their farming enterprise from the ground up. Starting with a modest 146 acres, Nathan has expanded his operation nearly tenfold through hard work and perseverance. Their focus on organic corn, soybeans, and wheat, coupled with strategic investments like grain bins, has propelled their business forward. Engaging actively in the Tuscola County Farm Bureau, Nathan advocates for agriculture and community engagement.

Matt and Alisha Gibson, operating in Kalamazoo County, have shown remarkable initiative in managing an 800-head hog-finishing facility and extensive crop operations. Their commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement drives their success, as they navigate the challenges of the agricultural market. Farm Bureau membership has provided them with valuable networking opportunities and a platform to promote Michigan agriculture.

Brayton Lehman, a first-generation farmer from Ionia County, stands out for his rapid ascent in the farming industry. From purchasing his first combine in high school to establishing a successful custom-harvesting business, Brayton has demonstrated exceptional entrepreneurship and determination. His involvement with Farm Bureau has been instrumental in expanding his network and accessing resources for growth.

Zachary Wagner, based in Clinton County, has transformed his initial 14-acre venture into a thriving farming operation spanning over 3,100 acres. His dedication to sustainable farming practices and continuous learning reflects his commitment to the land and future generations. Through Farm Bureau, Zachary has found a supportive community of fellow farmers and advocates.

These finalists represent the future of Michigan agriculture, embodying innovation, resilience, and a passion for farming. Michigan Farm Bureau congratulates them on their achievements and looks forward to their continued contributions to the agricultural community.
