Sarah Albrecht, a Community Sustainability undergraduate at Michigan State University (MSU), is pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Education. Her passion for teaching and sustainability has shaped her journey toward becoming an agricultural educator.
Sarah’s love for teaching began in childhood, from helping others learn math to becoming a dance instructor. In high school, her involvement in FFA deepened her connection to agriculture and sustainability.
After two years at Lansing Community College, she transferred to MSU, where she found her ideal program. She is now interning at Ovid-Elsie High School under Tracey Hoffman, gaining hands-on teaching experience.
Her dedication to sustainability was influenced by her older brother and her high school agriculture teacher. Through FFA and classroom experiences, she developed confidence in educating others about agriculture’s role in sustainability.
One of her most valuable experiences in the program has been the close-knit community of classmates and the support of faculty members who continuously update students on industry advancements. Sarah encourages other students to get involved in their majors to maximize learning opportunities.
As part of her degree, Sarah completed a professional internship at Ovid-Elsie Area Schools, where she gradually took on full teaching responsibilities. She values the guidance of her mentor teacher, who has helped her develop her skills and confidence.
Looking ahead, Sarah hopes to teach at a junior high or middle school while serving as an FFA Advisor. She is excited to inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders and contribute to the industry’s future.
