Updated 2025 IPM Course Now Available for Farmers Online

Updated 2025 IPM Course Now Available for Farmers Online

By Andi Anderson

Michigan State University Extension is now offering an updated Field Crops Integrated Pest Management (IPM) course for 2025. The self-paced, online program gives farmers and agribusiness professionals a chance to enhance their pest management knowledge while earning Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) credits.

The course is free of charge and is hosted on the Desire-to-Learn (D2L) platform. It runs from March to November 2025 and provides up to four RUP credits in the categories of Commercial CORE, Private CORE, 1A, or 1B.

This updated course includes recorded sessions from MSU’s Crop and Pest Management Update Meeting held in December 2024. Experts shared the latest insights on controlling weeds, insects, diseases, and nematodes — the most common pest issues in field crop farming.

Along with recorded presentations, the course includes supplemental handouts and instructional videos to support learning. The aim is to help growers make informed decisions about pest control using IPM techniques that reduce the need for chemical use while protecting crops and the environment.

The program is designed to be flexible and accessible, allowing participants to complete it at their own pace over several months.

For assistance or more details, participants can contact the Clinton County Extension office at 989-224-5240 or email atkinmon@msu.edu.

This educational effort is supported by the Crop Protection and Pest Management Program through the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture. While the content reflects the expertise of MSU specialists, the views expressed do not necessarily represent the official position of the USDA.

This course is an excellent opportunity for farmers to refresh their knowledge, meet licensing requirements, and stay ahead in sustainable pest management practices.
