The United States Department of Agriculture has made a major investment to support rural communities across Michigan.
Over the past year, the department directed $889 million toward projects that strengthen the rural economy, agriculture, housing, and essential community services. These investments reflect a strong commitment to improving life in rural areas.
Rural communities play an important role in food production, economic stability, and national security. Funding from the USDA Rural Development program helps ensure that farmers, families, and businesses have the tools they need to succeed. The investments also aim to attract private development while supporting public needs.
A large portion of the funding focused on community infrastructure. These projects support public safety, healthcare access, and essential facilities that rural residents rely on daily. Improved infrastructure helps communities grow stronger and more resilient.

USDA Rural Development uses loans, grants, and loan guarantees to support these efforts. Programs also expand access to internet, electric service, transportation, education, and healthcare.
