AmeriCorps to Host Service Projects Across Michigan
Michigan Ag Connection - 05/15/2019

Five Regional Russ Mawby Signature Service Projects will bring hundreds of AmeriCorps members and volunteers to various Michigan communities for a day of intensive service on May 17 and 18.

The Michigan Community Service Commission, the state's lead agency on volunteerism and service, will support the five projects. The projects will address a variety of community needs and visibly demonstrate the power of Michigan's AmeriCorps members in action. This annual event is named for Dr. Russell "Russ" Mawby, who spent the majority of his career leading the Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek and was a tremendous advocate for youth and volunteer service.

The 2019 projects are:

Northern Michigan/Upper Peninsula (Gaylord) May 17, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. AmeriCorps members will spend the day serving along 3 miles of the Iron Belle Trail through downtown Gaylord. Service activities include mulching, planting native plants, removal of trash and large piles of debris, and completing light maintenance along the trail.

Flint/Tri-Cities (Flint) May 17, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. AmeriCorps members will participate in a community beautification and blight reduction project in the area surrounding Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village, 4119 Saginaw St, Flint, and Dewey Park.
