Ten nonprofit organizations and school districts across the state were recently awarded $23,000 in grants to fight food insecurity in their communities. Feeding the Future Grants are administered by the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund (ACF), who will award $144,000 in grants this year.
Eligible recipients are nominated by their local Farm Bureau Insurance agent and selected by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the organization, population being served and overall goal of the program. The next round of Feeding the Future Grants is open, and grants will be awarded up to $4,000 per organization.
Community Hope — Cadillac
Grant funds will support Community Hope’s Back Pack for Kids Program and help stock their shelves with food packs for almost two months. Community Hope was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Melissa Schultz.
First United Methodist Church of Grand Ledge — Grand Ledge
Grant funds will be used to purchase food and serving supplies for a monthly homecooked meal program for families in need. The First United Methodist Church of Grand Ledge nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Nick Cypher and Peter Jones.
Grace Lutheran Church of Alpena — Alpena
Grant funds will be used to stock the church’s Little Food Pantry, which provides 24/7 access to food on a short-term basis to local community members. Grace Lutheran Church and the Little Food Pantry were nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Bobby Barrigar.
Hunters Against Hunger — Charlotte
Hunters Against Hunger partners with local food banks to provide processed venison from local hunters. Grant funds will be used to cover processing fees so the food banks and receive and distribute processed game at no cost. Hunters Against Hunger was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Gabe Beam.
Illuminate Church — Ionia
Illuminate Church operates a food pantry, and funds will be used to stock the food pantry and reach as many community members in need as possible. Illuminate Church was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Denise Arnesen.
Menominee Area Public Schools — Menominee
Grant funds will be used to provide healthy classroom snacks to K-12 students during the school day. Menominee Area Public Schools was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent James Porras.
