Field Crops Fertility and Nutrient Training in March 2025

Michigan State University Extension is organizing a Field Crops Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management Training on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Clinton County Smith Hall, St. Johns, Michigan. Participants can also attend online via Zoom.

Following the basics-focused training last year, this advanced session dives deeper into soil fertility and nutrient management. It is ideal for anyone with foundational knowledge of soil nutrients, regardless of attendance at the previous event.

The training costs $50 per person, which includes lunch for in-person attendees and materials. Participants can earn five certified crop adviser (CCA) continuing education units in nutrient management.

  • 8:30 a.m.: Check-in and registration
  • 9:00 a.m.: Nitrogen session by Dr. Kurt Steinke
  • 10:45 a.m.: Nutrient interactions on plant uptake by Jenna Falor and Christine Charles
  • 11:15 a.m.: Micronutrients discussion by Nicolle Ritchie, Phil Kaatz, and Teresa Crook
  • 12:30 p.m.: Sulfur insights by Dr. Kurt Steinke
  • 1:15 p.m.: Economics of nitrogen by Jon LaPorte
  • 2:00 p.m.: Burning questions Q&A with experts
  • 2:30 p.m.: Wrap-up and evaluation
