The 2025 MI Ag Ideas to Grow With virtual conference is set to return from February 24 through March 7, offering more than 40 free educational sessions for farmers of all experience levels. Hosted by Michigan State University Extension, the event covers a broad range of agricultural topics to support farmers and industry professionals.
The sessions are divided into specialized tracks, including livestock production, crop management, irrigation, beginning farmer resources, farm stress management, and environmental sustainability. Each session is designed to provide practical insights and expert guidance.
Session Highlights:
- Animal Agriculture: Topics include beekeeping, livestock production, environmental practices, and farmers markets.
- Beginning Farmers: Sessions focus on business planning, soil health, funding options, climate challenges, and marketing strategies.
- Field Crops: Experts will discuss crop pest management, precision conservation, and challenges in no-till farming.
- Food Preservation: Learn about cottage food laws, canning techniques, dehydrating produce, and selling honey and maple syrup.
- Irrigation: Discussions include field crop irrigation, drip irrigation, and Michigan water policy.
- Solar Farming: Explore integrating livestock grazing and vegetable production with solar energy projects.
- Vegetable Farming: Topics include direct-to-consumer marketing and strategies for growing selected crops successfully.
Sessions are free, but registration is required to access Zoom links. Participants can earn RUP and CCA credits for select sessions.
“Michigan has an incredibly diverse agricultural industry,” said MSU Extension educator Charles Gould. “There’s a session for everyone, from new farmers to experienced professionals.”
