Michigan's small businesses are the backbone of our communities, providing unique products, services, and employment opportunities. In recognition of their vital role, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is encouraging Michiganders to participate in Small Business Saturday, a nationwide day of celebration and support for small businesses.
"Michigan's small businesses make our local communities unique," said MDARD Director Tim Boring. "From a local candy shop to a nursery selling poinsettias, small businesses make the holiday season special while helping Michigan's economy to thrive."
To highlight the importance of small businesses, Director Boring visited Kean's Store Company in Mason, an old-fashioned variety store that has been serving the community since 1928. Kean's is a prime example of the many small businesses that contribute to the vibrancy and character of Michigan's towns and cities.
Small Business Saturday falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, marking the start of the holiday shopping season. It's an opportunity for shoppers to support their local businesses and make a direct impact on their communities.
When Michiganders shop local, they're not just making a purchase; they're investing in their communities. Small businesses are often the heart of a town, providing jobs, supporting local organizations, and preserving the unique character of each place.
MDARD encourages everyone to visit their local small businesses on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year. By shopping local, we can all contribute to the success of these vital businesses and strengthen our communities.
Together, we can make a big difference by supporting Michigan's small businesses. Shop local, shop often, and show your love for your community.
