The Michigan Cattlemen's Association (MCA) hosted a successful 2024 Michigan Beef Expo and Trade Show. This 34th-anniversary event brought together hundreds of cattle exhibitors and generated over $370,000 in sales.
Over 375 registered buyers participated, with nearly 100 bidding online and attendees coming from other states and Canada. The average bred heifer reached $4,322, and cow/calf pairs averaged $4,516.
"This event puts Michigan on the map in the Great Lakes cattle market," stated the MCA. Sponsors included Burnips Equipment, Great Lakes Sire Service, and over 50 others.
New highlights included the Industry Excellence Award, presented for the first time to Quentin Harwood. The inaugural Friday Night Lights frozen genetics auction generated positive results with over $36,700 in sales.
The breed show featured over 100 cattle representing all Michigan breeds. Flat River Livestock's Michigan-bred Simmental bull received the supreme champion bull title.
The supreme champion heifer was a Simmental percentage female from 3G Cattle. Renowned judge PJ Budler officiated the show.
Saturday's live cattle sale yielded over $370,000. The average bull sold for $3,471, and open females averaged $2,922.
The Michigan Beef Expo showcased the strength of Michigan's cattle breeding programs and provided a valuable marketplace for industry participants.
