Michigan Career and Technical Institute Honors 71 Graduates

By Andi Anderson

The Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI) recently held its winter/spring graduation ceremony, honoring the accomplishments of 71 students who completed in-demand training programs. These graduates, equipped with valuable credentials, are now prepared to pursue competitive employment opportunities in integrated workplaces.

Jennifer Zuniga, Director of MCTI, commended the dedication and achievements of the graduating class, emphasizing the institute's commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities. Through its student-focused approach, MCTI ensures that graduates possess the technical expertise and employability skills essential for success in today's economy.

Among the graduates, four individuals were recognized with MCTI's prestigious Honor Award for their exceptional contributions to the school community and significant personal growth during their time at MCTI. Mindy Hart, Holly Leverenz, Zachary Miller, and Piper Mitchell exemplify the values of dedication and collaboration instilled by the institute's staff.

Sigrid Adams, Acting Bureau Director of Michigan Rehabilitation Services, delivered the Commencement Address, expressing excitement for the graduates' bright futures. The ceremony, held at MCTI's main campus in Plainwell, also featured Leverenz delivering the Student Address.

In addition to the main campus, MCTI operates accredited extension campuses in Benton Harbor, Kalamazoo, and Fowlerville, providing specialized training programs tailored to diverse career paths. These programs, supported by industry advisory committees, ensure that students receive relevant and high-quality education aligned with workforce demands.

MCTI's commitment to promoting the integration of individuals with disabilities extends beyond technical training. The institute offers comprehensive support services, including health, psychological, and social work services, as well as housing and extracurricular activities, fostering a holistic learning environment.

As a division of Michigan Rehabilitation Services within the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, MCTI plays a pivotal role in advancing Governor Whitmer's Sixty by 30 goal, aiming to increase the number of working-age adults with skill certificates or college degrees by 2030.
