Michigan, known for its rich tradition of crafting high-quality beverages, has officially designated November as 'Michigan Craft Beverage Month.' Governor Gretchen Whitmer's proclamation recognizes the thriving craft beverage industry's pivotal role in nurturing the state's economy and fostering vibrant communities.
Governor Whitmer, a staunch advocate of Michigan-made products, emphasized the significance of the craft beverage sector, which not only brings communities together but also sustains tens of thousands of well-paying jobs. In line with her commitment to promoting economic growth and investing in workforce development, the governor is dedicated to supporting this integral part of the state's economy. She encourages Michiganders to join her in celebrating 'Michigan Craft Beverage Month' by embracing Michigan-made craft beverages in their holiday festivities, whether it's enhancing their meals, giving unique gifts, or creating cherished memories with loved ones.
Michigan's craft beverage industry exemplifies the diversity and versatility of the state's agriculture. With a bounty of specialty crops such as apples, hops, and grain, Michigan's craft beverage producers have the canvas to create innovative and flavorful products that are uniquely Michigan.
The state's craft beverage credentials are impressive: Michigan ranks sixth in the nation for craft breweries, seventh for craft distilleries, and consistently stands as a top producer of hard ciders. Additionally, it holds the ninth position in the country for wine production, bottling over 4 million gallons annually. With more than 300 breweries, 195 wineries, 85 distilleries, and 90 hard cideries across Michigan, the craft beverage industry flourishes at the intersection of agricultural business development, tourism, and community investment, encompassing both rural and urban settings.
Beyond their delicious offerings, craft beverage businesses serve as pillars of economic vitality within communities. They are known for revitalizing main street buildings and often catalyze development in underdeveloped industrial areas. Wineries, breweries, cideries, and distilleries contribute to job creation and boost tourism, positively impacting rural communities while fostering growth in urban areas.
The Michigan Craft Beverage Council, represented by its director, Jenelle Jagmin, extends gratitude to Michiganders who are already enthusiastic ambassadors of this unique industry. During this holiday season, they encourage residents to leverage their purchasing decisions to support local businesses and Michigan-made products, celebrating and promoting the spirit of 'Michigan Craft Beverage Month.'
As Michigan embraces 'Craft Beverage Month,' it's a time for residents to not only enjoy the delightful offerings of local craft beverage producers but also to appreciate their essential contributions to Michigan's economic and cultural tapestry.
