Michigan crop progress and condition are mostly good, with corn and soybean harvests progressing despite delays. Winter wheat planting is also delayed, with some farmers abandoning plans to plant wheat this fall.
As of November 5, 2023, 26% of the corn crop and 42% of the soybean crop have been harvested in Michigan. This is behind their respective 5-year averages of 32% and 51%. Poor harvesting conditions, including wet weather and snow, have contributed to the delays.
Winter wheat planting is also behind schedule, with only 73% of the crop planted as of November 5, 2023. This is behind the 5-year average of 82%. Some farmers have abandoned plans to plant wheat this fall due to the delays.
The overall outlook for Michigan crops is positive. Soil moisture conditions are mostly adequate, and farmers are working hard to get their crops harvested.
