Michigan food & Ag wastewater funding

Michigan food & Ag wastewater funding

By Andi Anderson

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is offering funding through the Wastewater Infrastructure Fund Grant Program (WIF) to support local food and agriculture businesses in ensuring compliance with Michigan's environmental regulations.

MDARD Director Tim Boring highlighted the commitment of the Whitmer administration to address environmental concerns while supporting the economic vitality of businesses. The WIF grant program, launched in August 2023, is a collaborative effort among state agencies to achieve these goals.

Successful applicants will receive funding to help them comply with wastewater regulations set by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) under the Groundwater Discharge Permit Program. Eligible entities include agriculture and food processors located in Michigan, who are under enforcement actions or have compliance schedules.

The WIF funds provide a maximum of $2 million per project, distributed through a tiered system as part of the cost-reimbursement for selected projects. Applications will be accepted until all funding is allocated.

To apply, companies must submit an electronic pre-qualification form available on the MDARD grant page. MDARD staff will review all forms and contact eligible companies with further steps.

A webinar providing detailed information about the WIF grant will be held on April 11, 2024, at 2 p.m. EST. The webinar link and eligibility criteria are available on MDARD's website. For more information on MDARD Grants, visit www.Michigan.gov/MDARDGrants. Apply now to secure funding for compliance with environmental regulations and ensure the long-term success of your food and agriculture business in Michigan.
