Michigan State University (MSU) Extension is offering two in-person workshops in April to help farmers integrate healthcare, health insurance, and childcare into their farm business plans.
These sessions, part of the Farm Business Basics Series, aim to strengthen farm resilience and financial planning.
Farmers often face challenges balancing their business operations with family needs. The workshops will provide strategies to manage healthcare costs, incorporate insurance into risk management, and plan for childcare while maintaining a sustainable farm business.
The first session, Whole Farm Planning: Healthcare and Health Insurance, will be held on April 16, 2025, from 4:30-6 p.m. It will focus on helping farmers understand how to include healthcare expenses in their household and farm budgets.
The second session, Whole Farm Planning: Childcare, will take place on April 23, 2025, from 4:30-6 p.m. It will provide insights into managing childcare while running a farm, addressing financial considerations and work-life balance.
Both workshops will be held at the Clio Area Library, Clio, Michigan, and are free to attend, but registration is required. Farmers can register online at https://events.anr.msu.edu/farmbusinessbasics/ or contact Cheri Burk at 989-895-4026 or Kelly McClelland at 810-244-8555 for more details.
These workshops are part of a five-part Farm Business Basics Series. Future sessions will cover farm succession planning, accounting, and grant opportunities for farmers.
MSU Extension encourages all farmers to take advantage of these valuable resources to strengthen their operations and ensure financial security.
