Register for soybean research updates this January

By Andi Anderson

The Michigan Soybean Committee, in collaboration with Michigan State University (MSU) Extension, is hosting a series of regional meetings in January 2025 for Michigan soybean growers and agribusiness professionals.

These meetings will cover the results of the 2024 on-farm research projects, historical climate trends affecting Michigan’s growing seasons, and an open discussion for input on upcoming 2025 research projects.

The sessions will be held at various locations across Michigan, including Southeast Michigan, Central Michigan, the Bay region, the Thumb region, Southwest Michigan, and West Michigan. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m., except in Adrian (Southeast Michigan), where it will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Agenda Highlights:

9:00 a.m. Registration and coffee

9:15 a.m. Soybean Checkoff and Association Updates: Local committee and association board members will share updates on checkoff initiatives.

9:30 a.m. 2024 Research Results: Eric Anderson, MSU Extension Soybean Educator, will present findings from the year’s soybean on-farm research trials.

11:00 a.m. Climate Trends and Agricultural Impacts: Jeff Andresen, an MSU climatologist, will discuss climate trends affecting the Great Lakes region’s agriculture.

11:45 a.m. 2025 Research Project Planning: Mark Seamon and Eric Anderson will lead a discussion to identify future research needs.

12:15 p.m. Complimentary Lunch: Provided by the Michigan Soybean Committee.

All program costs are covered by the Michigan Soybean Committee, thanks to farmer investments in the soybean checkoff program. Pre-registration is required to ensure accurate numbers for lunch and materials.

Growers can register online or call the St. Joseph County Extension office at 269-467-5511 for assistance. Registration is requested seven days before the event to secure a spot.

These meetings provide Michigan soybean growers with a unique opportunity to stay updated on soybean research, discuss climate impacts, and help guide future research for continued success in Michigan’s soybean industry.
