The Grassland Conservation Reserve Program (Grassland CRP) is accepting applications from agricultural producers and private landowners until June 28th, 2024. This program, offered by the USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA), allows participants to conserve grasslands while maintaining grazing and haying practices.
Grassland CRP offers environmental benefits like improved wildlife habitat, soil health, and carbon capture. The program's success is evident in the over 2.3 million acres enrolled through the 2023 signup, bringing the total participation to 8.64 million acres across the entire CRP program.
Interested landowners and producers can learn more and apply through their local USDA Service Center before the June 28th deadline.
The FSA offers additional options for land management:
- Continuous CRP signup: Enroll in CRP year-round, with automatic acceptance upon meeting eligibility.
- Forest Management Incentive Program: Provides financial assistance to improve forest health through practices like brush removal and controlled burns.
- Transition Incentives Program: Offers incentives to producers who sell or lease expiring CRP land to beginning or veteran farmers committed to sustainable agriculture.
By participating in these programs, landowners and producers can achieve both conservation goals and financial benefits for their land.
