USDA Survey to Shape 2026 Crop Reports

USDA Survey to Shape 2026 Crop Reports

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is beginning a major data collection effort to support agricultural reporting for 2026. Through its National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA will conduct the June Agricultural Survey by contacting more than 90,000 producers across the nation.

“The June Agricultural Survey is one of the most significant and recognized surveys NASS conducts. When producers take part, they help ensure that the nation’s agricultural reporting remains accurate, transparent, and free from speculation,” said Joseph L. Parsons, NASS administrator.

“Their responses directly support decisions made by farmers, ranchers, researchers, private industry, and policymakers who depend on trustworthy data,” said Parsons.

The survey focuses on measuring crop acreage and grain stock levels as of June 1, 2026. Producers will be asked to provide information on acres planted and harvested, including biotech crop acreage and grain inventories. This information is essential for producing high-quality agricultural statistics.

USDA highlights the importance of farmer participation in this survey. Accurate data helps reduce speculation and improve transparency across agricultural markets. The results inform a wide range of users, including farmers, ranchers, researchers, private businesses, and government leaders who depend on reliable information.

To make participation easier, producers can complete the survey online, by phone, or through mailed forms. USDA understands that this is a demanding season for many farmers but stresses that their input helps keep U.S. agriculture strong and competitive.

The collected data will be used to prepare several key USDA reports. These include the annual Acreage report and the quarterly Grain Stocks report, both scheduled for release on June 30, 2026. Additional reports using this data cover crop production, small grains, farmland values, livestock inventories, and global supply and demand estimates.

USDA makes all National Agricultural Statistics Service reports available online for public access. Producers and industry members are encouraged to follow the upcoming report of releases and discussions planned for late June, which will provide deeper insight into the survey results and their impact on agriculture.
