Warm, dry weather spurs harvest in Michigan

Warm, dry weather spurs harvest in Michigan

By Andi Anderson

Michigan farmers made good progress on harvest last week despite wet weather conditions. Warm, dry weather late in the week allowed farmers to get back into fields and make up for lost time.

Corn for grain harvest is behind the 5-year average, but farmers were able to make significant progress last week. Corn for grain moisture content remains above the 5-year average but is expected to come down as the harvest continues.

Soybean harvest is also behind the 5-year average, but farmers are making progress. Sugarbeet harvest and piling is wrapping up, and winter wheat planting is continuing.

Other activities last week included tending livestock, hauling grain, and planting cover crops.

Overall, Michigan farmers are making progress on harvest despite wet weather conditions. The warmer, dry weather late last week was a welcome relief, and farmers are taking advantage of it to get ahead.
