Saluting Farm Bureau’s Local Leaders

Saluting Farm Bureau’s Local Leaders

By Jamie Martin

Over the last year, the Farm Bureau dedicated efforts to honor the “heartbeat” of the organization—its county presidents. These key figures have been instrumental at the local, state, and national levels, ensuring that agriculture’s voice is heard, and its needs are addressed.

Dubbed “The Year of the County President,” this period featured numerous activities, including visits to county leaders and special virtual townhall meetings. The highlight was a dedicated event at the 2025 American Farm Bureau Convention in San Antonio, where county presidents were spotlighted for their exemplary leadership.

County presidents like Megan DeHart in Kentucky and Stewart Ramsey in Delaware have exemplified the spirit of community and innovation.

DeHart’s social media initiative connected the community with everyday agricultural life, while Ramsey worked to alleviate financial burdens on farmers through property tax reductions and educational initiatives.

In Kansas, Heather Mentzer focused on increasing member involvement in advocacy, significantly enhancing the local agricultural community's engagement with state legislators.

In California, Mark Lopez’s leadership in establishing farmers markets and supporting agricultural education initiatives resulted in substantial community contributions and educational support.

These leaders exemplify the impact that dedicated individuals can have on their communities and the agricultural sector. Through initiatives that connect, educate, and support, they help maintain agriculture as a cornerstone of their local and national economies.

Their stories inspire continued support and recognition of the vital roles these presidents play in not only advocating for agricultural issues but also in driving significant community development and support across the nation.
