Michigan farmers - Grab USDA conservation funds now.

Michigan farmers - Grab USDA conservation funds now.

Want to give your land a green makeover? The USDA's Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is handing out financial boosts for this. But hurry, applications are due by Nov. 17, 2023.

What's EQIP? Well, it's a cool program that helps farmers like you make nature-friendly changes to your land. Think of better soil health, sparkling water quality, and happier wildlife. From cover crops and forest upgrades to better grazing plans, EQIP covers a lot.

Whether you're into commodity crops, specialty ones, or even if you're a livestock lover, EQIP's got your back. Hey, even forestland owners aiming for top-notch timber, or a wildlife wonderland can join in.

Michigan’s slice of the EQIP pie also has some special funds. For example, there's cash for projects in the Western Lake Erie Basin or the Saginaw Bay Watershed. And if you're going organic or getting certified by the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program, there's something for you too!

There's extra money from the Inflation Reduction Act for climate-smart practices. You can drop by your local NRCS office to get the lowdown.

Oh, and for those who've been historically underserved. EQIP is offering some special treats. Upfront cash to buy stuff or hire services, and even higher payment rates.
