Steve Pearce backed for BLM leadership role

Steve Pearce backed for BLM leadership role

By Jamie Martin

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the Public Lands Council (PLC) have voiced strong support for President Trump’s decision to nominate former Congressman Steve Pearce as the new Director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Pearce has decades of experience representing New Mexico in both Congress and the State Legislature. His background gives him a clear understanding of the vital role public lands play in supporting rural economies, ranching operations, and conservation efforts across the western United States.

In a joint statement, NCBA Executive Director of Natural Resources and PLC Executive Director Kaitlynn Glover praised Pearce’s qualifications and leadership. “Having represented New Mexico in Congress and the State House for decades, former Rep. Steve Pearce understands the important role that public lands play across the West. Pearce’s experience makes him thoroughly qualified to lead the BLM and tackle the issues federal lands ranchers are facing,” said NCBA Executive Director of Natural Resources and PLC Executive Director Kaitlynn Glover. “Ranchers need a permanent BLM director. NCBA and PLC members support his nomination, and we urge the Senate to swiftly confirm him.”

Both organizations stressed that ranchers across the western states need steady, long-term leadership at the BLM to address challenges like grazing policy, environmental management, and land access. The NCBA and PLC believe Pearce’s appointment will help promote a balanced approach between environmental protection and agricultural productivity.

The groups also called on the U.S. Senate to move swiftly on his confirmation, noting that Pearce’s proven experience and commitment to western communities will benefit both the ranching industry and federal land stewardship for years to come.
