State Corn Stocks Up 2 Percent from 2019

On June 1, 2020, Michigan corn stocks totaled 100 million bushels, 2 percent higher than a year earlier, according to Marlo Johnson, director, USDA NASS, Great Lakes Regional Office. About 58 percent of the corn was stored on farms. The third quarter disappearance was 32.7 million bushels, compared with 77.5 million bushels a year earlier. Soybean stocks on June 1, 2020, were 40.1 million bushels. That was 9 percent lower than stocks a year earlier. The third quarter indicated disappearance was 13.7 million bushels. Farm stocks of soybeans were 15.0 million bushels. Wheat stocks on June 1, 2020, were 22.3 million bushels, 28 percent below a year ago. Approximately 98 percent of wheat stocks were in commercial storage. Fourth quarter indicated disappearance was 8.91 million bushels, 14 percent of supply.

Corn stored in all positions on June 1, 2020, totaled 5.22 billion bushels, up less than 1 percent from June 1, 2019. Of the total stocks, 3.03 billion bushels were stored on farms, up 3 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, 2.20 billion bushels, were down 2 percent from a year ago. The March - May 2020 indicated disappearance was 2.73 billion bushels, compared with 3.41 billion bushels during the same period last year. Soybeans stored in all positions on June 1, 2020, totaled 1.39 billion bushels, down 22 percent from June 1, 2019. Soybean stocks stored on farms were estimated at 633 million bushels, down 13 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, 753 million bushels, were down 28 percent from last June. Indicated disappearance for the March - May 2020 quarter totaled 869 million bushels, down 8 percent from the same period a year earlier. Old crop all wheat stored in all positions on June 1, 2020, totaled 1.04 billion bushels, down 3 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks were estimated at 232 million bushels, up 12 percent from last June. Off-farm stocks, 812 million bushels, were down 7 percent from a year ago. The March - May 2020 indicated disappearance was 372 million bushels, down 28 percent from the same period a year earlier.
