MDARD director visits greater Lansing food bank
Michigan Ag Connection - 11/16/2023

Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Director Tim Boring recently visited the Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) to volunteer and help distribute food boxes to local residents in need.

Boring's visit highlighted the importance of food banks in Michigan, particularly during the holiday season when demand for food assistance increases. He also praised the Michigan Agriculture Surplus System, a program that allows the Michigan Food Bank Council (MFBC) to purchase surplus produce from Michigan farmers for distribution to local food banks.

In addition to visiting the GLFB, MDARD has also launched a campaign called #GivingMIThanks to recognize and express thankfulness for Michigan's food and agriculture industry. Throughout the year, MDARD will be meeting with Michigan's food and agricultural businesses to discuss their needs and how the department can help them succeed.

These efforts are part of MDARD's commitment to ensuring that all Michiganders have access to healthy, nutritious, and affordable food.
