The MSU Extension Field Crops Webinar Series on February 19 will focus on drainage considerations for soil health and water quality. Ehsan Ghane and Monica Jean from MSU Extension will discuss the interconnectedness of drainage, soil health, cover crops, and water quality. They will emphasize how managing excess phosphorus and implementing soil health practices can enhance crop yield while safeguarding water resources.
The webinar series, running from February 5 to March 25, 2024, features eight online programs covering various aspects of field crop production and pest management. Each session adopts an informal talk-show/podcast format, facilitating interaction with the audience. The theme, "Two for the Price of One: Conversations in Row Crop Agriculture," ensures that each session involves two speakers exploring different facets of the topic.
The upcoming sessions include topics such as beneficial nematodes and soil health, agronomic management opportunities in response to weather-related challenges, dry bean production agronomics, disease management in soybeans and corn, and weed control challenges in field crops and forages.
The cost of registration for the entire series is $20 per person. Participants attending live webinars can earn Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development pesticide recertification (RUP) credits and continuing education units (CEUs) for certified crop advisers. The webinars will be recorded and archived, allowing registrants to view sessions they may have missed. The series is accessible on both mobile devices and computers with stable internet connections.
To register, participants can visit the MSU Extension website. Prior to each webinar, registrants will receive an email with a link to connect to the session. For additional information or assistance, individuals can contact the Montcalm County Extension office at 269-467-5511 or msue.montcalm@county.msu.edu.
