Springdale Farms, based in Scottville, has been named the 2024 Master Farmer by the Michigan Vegetable Council. The award, announced during the 24th annual Great Lakes EXPO banquet in Grand Rapids, celebrates excellence in vegetable farming and industry collaboration.
The Michigan Vegetable Council’s Master Farmer Award honors farmers who demonstrate outstanding practices, innovation, and cooperation with Michigan State University researchers, Extension educators, and industry leaders.
Springdale Farms has grown a diverse array of produce, ranging from asparagus to zucchini, with their crops reaching processors like Arbre Farms and New Era Canning.
Mark Mayer, a retired field manager at Arbre Farms, praised Springdale Farms for their dedication to quality and efficiency.
“I was impressed with their growing, their good yields, good quality, and earmarked them to increase acres,” Mayer said. “Over the years, I kept increasing acres with them. They did a magnificent job always concentrating on good quality and maximizing yields.”
The award recognizes not only their productivity but also their commitment to sustainable practices and collaboration with agricultural experts. Springdale Farms’ success reflects their ability to adapt and thrive in the competitive vegetable farming industry.
By working closely with Michigan State University and other industry partners, Springdale Farms sets an example for innovation and excellence in agriculture.
