Ottawa County Farm Bureau recently played a crucial role in passing a significant $25 million broadband plan. The proposal was up for approval by the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners, and the Farm Bureau's active involvement made a real difference.
They spoke up and pushed for this broadband plan, and it worked! The county commissioners all agreed and passed the proposal unanimously on December 12. This decision came even though it wasn't on their original agenda for the meeting.
Adam Dietrich, the President of Ottawa County Farm Bureau, highlighted how vital rural internet is for farms and businesses. He was really proud of everyone coming together to support this local issue.
When the county asked for opinions, a lot of people got involved. 81 folks got in touch with the 11 county commissioners, sending a total of 891 emails. This plan aims to add almost 400 miles of new internet lines, helping around 10,000 locals and businesses in the area.
The $25 million includes money from a state grant, the American Rescue Plan Act, and contributions from an internet provider. This whole success shows how important it is for local farmer groups to speak up for their communities.
