Join fellow vegetable growers and Michigan State University (MSU) Extension staff for the Organic Vegetable Production Workshop and Crop Walk on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
This event will cover sustainable growing practices, integrated pest management solutions, and improving produce safety, focusing on non-chemical crop protection methods suitable for diversified vegetable farms.
Hosted by MSU Extension staff Chris Galbraith, a vegetable educator for southeast Michigan, and Monique Mose, a sustainable agriculture program instructor at the MSU Tollgate Farm and Education Center, the workshop will feature educational sessions on weed control in high tunnels and organic disease management.
The agenda includes a produce safety water quality update from MSU Extension and an overview of vegetable production and the sustainable agriculture program at the Tollgate Center.
Following dinner, participants will enjoy a wagon tour of the center grounds and a crop walk through the vegetable fields and hoophouses. MSU Extension staff will lead a discussion on vegetable production based on observations during the tour, offering an interactive and dynamic learning experience for all attendees.
The program will run from 3 – 7 p.m., with check-in starting at 2:30 p.m. The event will be held at the MSU Tollgate Farm and Education Center, located at 28115 Meadowbrook Rd, Novi, MI 48377. The registration fee for the event is $25, which includes dinner.
The program also offers three restricted use pesticide credits in categories 1A, 1B, Comm Core, and Priv Core. Online registration prior to the event is strongly encouraged. For more information and to register, visit the MSU Extension website.
